Genette Gillard - Vocal Director -
Genette received a Masters Degree in
Education and Fine Arts from Michigan State University and studied private
voice with Barbara Born and Julia Lindsay. Attended multiple training
sessions on singing, voice, pitch, choir, and sight singing workshops at the
Midwest Music Educators Conference, University of Michigan, as well as Orff
and Kodaly early childhood education workshops at Central Michigan
University, and Michigan State University.
Taught in the Benton Harbor Schools from 1971-77;
the St. Joseph Public Schools from 1978-2003; and elementary vocal music
from 1984-2003; organized and directed the St. Joseph Public School’s
Elementary Schools’ Honors Choir Program from 1993 to 2003. Genette is
currently serving as Director of St. Joseph High School’s Spring Musical and
served as associate Director since 1990. She currently serves as Music
Director for the Pilgrim Congregational Church (since 1995), serves on the
Board of Monday Musical, and is an active member of Sunday Club for
Students. Genette also teaches private voice lessons
Genette was a featured soloist in the Michiana Area as well as in Europe,
the Symphony Orchestra’s Masterworks series, with Lakeland Choral Society,
the Twin Cities Symphony, and Monday Musical, as well as the St. Joseph Pro
Musical Chamber Chorus and Orchestra, and OPUS NINE. Some of the major works
in which she has participated as soloist are, Bach’s Mass in B Minor, and
Cantata #191 ; Vaughan Williams’ Mass in g Minor, and Magnificat: Britten’s
Rejoice in the Lamb; Haydn’s Nelson Mass and Mass in Time of War: Durufle’s
Requiem; Beethoven’s Mass in C, and Mozart’s Requiem. Genette has appeared
in productions of Annie, The Merry Widow, Amahl and the Night
Visitors, Pirates of Penzance, and Show Boat. Along with Miss
Lindsay, Genette has featured as principal soloist in the 1990 Newbold
Festival in Europe, and has presented vocal recitals with her as well.
Genette has served on the Board of Directors of the Twin Cities Symphony,
Monday Musical, Lakeland Choral Society, and advisory board member for the
St. Joseph Pro Musica Society. She has prepared children's chorus for
Carmina Burana for the Michiana Symphony and participated in the Western
Michigan University’s annual Elementary Choir Festival since 1993.
